Sisters in Grease SISTERS IN GREASE SIG011 ****

Acoustic blues lives and thrives in Britain in 2011. Mike C (Resonator bottleneck and acoustic guitars) and partner in crime, Andy C (acoustic guitar, harmonica) have created a contemporary take on blues without losing sight of the roots of the music. Mainly self-penned songs, they demonstrate a great understanding and empathy with what blues music is all about but bringing it bang up to date with such cleverly-written songs as Telephone You, Post Natal Blues and the Fire Goes Out. Album opener Five More Wishes sounds as though it could’ve been written circa 1930 and is a classic condemned man song with genuine grit and soul. They remember Elvis with Lincoln Blues, a song written about that week surrounding the rock’n’roll king’s death. When it comes to acoustic blues, this is definitely the real thing.

Back in September the duo recorded a studio version of the Jagger, Richards track Back Of My Hand which is available on the Stones album A BIGGER BANG. It is a gritty blues number with harmonica and slide guitar (both played by Mick Jagger). The parts were just made for the Rev (Andy C) on harmonica and Mike C on slide. Due to copyright issues the recording is unlikely to appear but the duo have played it live at their latest gigs so catch it live instead & see.
